Cookie policy

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser, so it can remember something from one visit to the next. This page details the categories of cookies and similar technologies used by BMI Corner, the role of Google’s consent mode, and how to change your choice. It complements our privacy policy.

1. The three categories of cookies

We distinguish three categories, depending on whether a cookie needs your consent:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: required for the site to work, so they do not need consent. For us, this covers local storage of your consent choice itself (imc-consent), your light/dark display preference (imc-theme), and, if you are signed in, the session cookie that keeps you authenticated.
  • Audience measurement cookies: help us understand how the site is used (pages viewed, traffic). If enabled, they are only enabled after your consent.
  • Advertising cookies: set by Google through Google AdSense to display ads and, if you allow it, personalise them. They are only set after you choose “Accept all” in our banner.

2. The role of Google Consent Mode v2

Before any Google script even loads, our site sends a default signal stating that ad storage, ad user data, ad personalisation, and analytics storage are all denied. This is Google Consent Mode v2. When you respond to our banner, that signal is updated accordingly:

  • if you choose “Accept all”, all four signals switch to “granted” and measurement and advertising cookies may be set;
  • if you choose “Reject all”, they stay “denied” and Google adjusts how it operates accordingly (aggregated, cookie-less measurement, and non-personalised ads where possible).

The two buttons on our banner carry exactly the same visual weight: rejecting is just as easy as accepting.

3. Cookies set by Google

Once you have given consent, Google and its advertising partners may set their own cookies, whose exact list and retention periods are defined by Google itself and change over time. Rather than reproduce a list here that would quickly go out of date, we point you to Google’s own, up-to-date documentation:

4. How long our own trackers last

Our own cookies are not classic HTTP cookies with a fixed lifetime: they are browser local storage entries (localStorage), with no automatic expiry date. Your consent choice and your theme preference therefore stay remembered until you clear them yourself — using the button below, by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings, or by switching browser or device.

5. Change your choice at any time

You can revisit your choice whenever you like. The button below clears your saved preference and reloads the page: the consent banner reappears immediately, just like on your very first visit.
