About BMI Corner

BMI Corner is an independent site offering a free body mass index (BMI) calculator, together with guides that explain how to read the result. This page states plainly who publishes the site, where its content comes from, what it does not do, and how it is funded — a health site owes its visitors that much transparency.

Our mission

BMI is one of the most searched-for health indicators online, and also one of the most poorly explained: many pages show a single number with no context, no nuance for age or pregnancy, and sometimes thresholds that appear to be invented on the spot. Our goal is narrower and more useful — calculate BMI correctly, place the result in the recognised categories, and explain clearly what the figure means, and just as importantly, what it does not mean.

Our methodology

The content on BMI Corner is written from the public reference values and guidance published by the World Health Organization (WHO), which is also the source of the BMI category thresholds used throughout the calculator and its guides: severe thinness, underweight, normal weight, overweight, and the three classes of obesity. The calculation itself is the standard formula — weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared — with the same categories applied consistently across every page, so a result you see in one guide always means the same thing in another.

Where a figure is not clearly established by the WHO, we describe the underlying idea without inventing a number, rather than displaying an approximate statistic dressed up as fact. That is also why the calculator adds context instead of a bare category for a few situations where the adult classification does not apply on its own — during pregnancy, and for children, teenagers, and older adults, where growth charts or a shifted reference range matter more than a single fixed threshold.

Content is reviewed and updated as public health guidance evolves. We also say this clearly: BMI Corner does not employ a physician or any salaried healthcare professional, and no article on this site has undergone an individually named medical review. Claiming otherwise would be false, and we will not do it.

What this site does not do

BMI Corner does not provide a diagnosis and does not give personalised medical advice. The calculator returns a BMI value and places it within a general classification; it does not take into account your medical history, prior conditions, or individual circumstances. For any question about your health, your weight, or your body composition, the right step is always to consult a qualified healthcare professional, who can assess your situation as a whole.

How this site is funded

BMI Corner is free and will stay that way: there is no paid tier and no content reserved for subscribers. The site is instead funded by advertising, including through Google AdSense. Ads are always clearly labelled as such and never influence the editorial content of our guides. Advertising cookies are only set after your explicit choice, through the consent banner shown on your first visit — you can accept or reject everything with equally little effort, and change your mind at any time from our cookie policy. The full detail of how your data is handled, including anything related to optional weight tracking, is set out in our privacy policy.
